Teaching students the awareness of human impact on the environment and inspiring them to be a part of the solution is vital to our future on this planet. With this PLTW/STEM project, students were able to identify aspects of cleaning up an oil spill in a created environment. Students had a variety of materials available to create the environment, destroy it with oil, and then try to clean it up using various methods and science.

In this PLTW/STEM activity we were making glue out of powdered milk! The main ingredient is a protein in milk called casein that you can turn into glue by adding a catalyst to cause a reaction. Our catalyst was vinegar. Once we added the vinegar we were able to create a curd. After drying the curd we then added a smidge of hot water and baking soda to make a paste. We also made a flour based glue. Once the glues were made we tested them on 3 different types of materials to see how well they would hold! The students were surprised at how strong each glue was.

We have kicked off the 2024 cheer camp!
